As the year draws to a close, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam's visit to Beijing was abruptly called off, with Beijing criticizing her for not doing enough to prevent and control the epidemic, and a rare "anti-Lam" voice within the Hong Kong establishment, sparking speculation. Some analysts say that Xi Jinping does not seem satisfied with the outbreak of anti-China protests in Hong Kong last year, despite Lin's allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party.

As 2020 draws to a close, Carrie Lam, who has been supported by Beijing, was suddenly called off when she went to Beijing for her duty visit. According to Sing Tao Daily, Lam was scheduled to meet with leaders in Beijing from December 10 to 14, but was suddenly informed that the duty visit was cancelled.

At the same time, Beijing has publicly criticized Lam's failure to prevent and control the epidemic. Zeng Guang, a member of the high-level expert group of the Chinese Communist Party's National Health Commission, said in a recent interview with the mainland media that Hong Kong's epidemic prevention measures and policies, which were not put in place, led to the recurrence and severity of the epidemic.

Zeng Guang also said that the frequent movement of people between Hong Kong and Shenzhen will increase the pressure of epidemic prevention in Shenzhen.

According to the outside world, Lin Zheng's visit to Beijing was halted and he was criticized for being ineffective in fighting the epidemic, which released a signal that the Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping was dissatisfied with Lin Zheng.

On Dec. 15, Lam publicly responded to the suspension of the debriefing, saying that the arrangement for the debriefing in Beijing would be decided by the central government before informing the Chief Executive, and that she did not have the details now.

As for Beijing's criticism of her ineffective prevention and control of the epidemic in Hong Kong, Lam argued that "it is impossible to do everything perfectly". This seems to indicate that she is also unconvinced by Beijing.

In addition to Beijing's dissatisfaction with Lam, there are also rare "anti-Lam" voices within the pro-Beijing Hong Kong establishment.

Recently, Qu Ying-yin and Feng Weiguang, two of the most important members of Hong Kong's last chief executive and current vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), have publicly written articles criticizing Lin's lack of leadership, ineffectiveness in fighting the epidemic and "helplessness" to deal with Hong Kong's current predicament.

Hong Kong 01 boss Yu Pinhai, who is considered to be close to the power faction of the current government, also wrote an article pointing out that last year Lin Zheng proposed to amend the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance, which resulted in an anti-sending storm, and eventually relied on the Central Government to calm down. He reminded Lin Zheng if he still can not see clearly, "there is a possibility that even his political life will have to ride.

The sudden internal and external attack on Lin Zheng has sparked much speculation in the public opinion that this is not only behind the Hong Kong tea cup fiasco, but to a large extent from the Beijing court. I am afraid that the ineffectiveness of the fight against the epidemic has been the "death knell" of Lam Cheng, who has not yet entered the year of 2021 Chief Executive election, I am afraid that the road ahead of Lam Cheng is already difficult.

Since he became the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, he has always been subservient to the Chinese Communist Party. Last year, when the anti-China protest movement broke out in Hong Kong, Lam was instructed by the Chinese Communist Party to suppress Hong Kong people and was eventually sanctioned by the United States.

Not long ago, Lam complained to the outside world that no banks dared to open accounts for her, including Chinese banks, because of the U.S. sanctions. She was forced to spend cash every day, and received cash for her salary, which has become a pile of cash at home.

Lam's son, who originally studied in a U.S. university, was allegedly forced to return to Hong Kong because of the impact of the sanctions on Lam. Some commentators said that Lin Zheng worked for the Chinese Communist Party and was punished by the United States, but the Chinese Communist Party did not step in to help her, and her discontent with Beijing was revealed from her words.

It is worth mentioning that in May this year, a group of pro-Chinese Communist Party members in the financial sector suddenly formed a new political party called the "Bauhinia Party". The party claims to support "one country, two systems" and expects to recruit 250,000 members. The Hong Kong media believes that the Bauhinia Party is probably an overt manifestation of the underground Communist Party in Hong Kong.

According to an analysis by Hong Kong's Standpoint News, the Bauhinia Party claims to be recruiting 250,000 members, a level of membership that can only be seen in totalitarian countries with one-party rule, and according to a projection by veteran journalist Ching Cheong since 2012, there could be as many as 400,000 members of the underground Communist Party in Hong Kong.

Former Wen Wei Po deputy editor-in-chief Ching Cheong wrote an article in the online media Crowd News, pointing out that the emergence of the Bauhinia Party indicates that the CCP does not trust the Hong Kong pro-establishment, and is probably planning to purge the Hong Kong leftists represented by Lam Cheng.
