On December 16, former New York Times photojournalist and writer Du Bin was detained by Beijing police on suspicion of provoking trouble and is now being held at the Daxing District Detention Center in Beijing, and his family says they have not received a detention notice yet and are calling for social concern.

At 9:00 a.m. on December 16, New York Times photojournalist, documentary filmmaker and writer Du Bin was lost. At 9:00 p.m. that night, Du Bin's sister Du Jirong received a phone call from the police informing her that Du Bin had been detained by the Sun Village Police Station of Beijing Daxing Branch and was being held in the Daxing District Detention Center. Family members have not received the detention notice.

Du Bin's sister Du Jirong: "He is now detained by that Daxing side of a public security bureau, no specific reason, it is said to provoke trouble, to this charge was detained, because he does not have a pass, he has been staying at home, did not come out, he has not done anything sensitive recently."

Some community members have analyzed these as a means of the CCP's continued crackdown on freedom of expression.

According to Rights Defense Network, police have repeatedly approached Du Bin for questioning this year, saying they were under orders from the state security to delete his tweets from Twitter. Hu Jia, a friend of Du Bin's and a Beijing-based rights activist, said he had not met with Du Bin for more than a year because of the epidemic and learned yesterday that he had been arrested.

Hu Jia: "He had been summoned before, but I didn't expect him to take coercive measures this time, Du Bin had been criminally detained by the authorities before, and this time he was specifically arrested because, for example, what statements were made online, or what books were written, which is yet to be hired after the lawyer met him in the detention center, to be able to draw some accurate conclusions. "

Du Bin, 48, is a former New York Times Beijing bureau photojournalist who has published books such as "Toothbrush," "Tiananmen Massacre," "Ma Sanjia Roar," "Petitioner" and "Changchun Starvation War.
He was secretly arrested on the eve of the 24th anniversary of June 4 in 2013 after filming the documentary "The Woman on the Kid's Head" to expose the torture in Ma Sanjia Labor Camp.
