9月11日凌晨，于朦胧在北京阳光上东小区离奇坠亡。
据海外X平台上“新闻调查”发表一篇长文指，此事牵扯到一个家族的脉络，还有17人饭局的名单。这里面牵扯一个关键人物，那就是辛奇，原名辛晓雄，是天娱传媒有限公司的掌控人。有传言称他是中共高层的私生子。
知情人爆料，事发当晚的聚会共有17人参加，包括导演程青松、方某，编剧极某某，演员高某某、宋某某、于朦胧的经纪人与助理，以及多位重要人物的子女。事发后，上述多人纷纷声明撇清关系。但网络已不买账。
9月20日起，有网友通过全球性非政府组织“AVAAZ”，发起“为于朦胧讨公道”全球连署，指出于朦胧死亡过程高度疑似遭受残酷虐杀，呼吁展开全面、独立且透明的调查，截至10月4日中午，已有201,445人参与。
